Rashmi Agdekar will play lesbian 'Chunnilal' in Dev DD Season 2

Actress Rashmi Agdekar will play the reimagined roled of a lesbian 'Chunnilal' in season 2 of the webseries Dev DD, a contemporary adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's Devdas. Agdekar will reprise the role of Chandani based on Chunnilal's character.

“Back in 2017, when web series were just starting out in India, we had mostly seen caricaturish and stereotypical portrayals of LGBTQA characters on screen. But Chandni was not written that way. She is a regular small-town girl from Jaipur with her set of values, but she likes girls. It was this aspect that drew me to this role, as it normalises the representation of homosexual characters on screen, because that is how it is in real life," the actress told IANS.

Rashmi expressed her hope that more open dialogues around sexuality and homosexuality would make the coming generations more accepting.

The show takes you into the life of a female version of Devdas—Devika, a headstrong girl who defies societal norms. The second season focuses on issues like feminism, sexism, homophobia, and other things that society is reluctant to talk about.

Rashmi Agdekar has also acted in Rasbhari, ImMature, a limited three-episode YouTube series The Interns, which was very well received by people, and Awkward Conversations with Girlfriend. Her first Bollywood debut was in Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu starrer Andhadhun.

Dev DD is a gender-reversed, new-age version of the original novel by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Devdas is Devika, played by Asheema Vardaan. Akhil Kapur plays Parth (Paro) while Sanjay Suri is Anurag (Chandramukhi).

The first edition of the series was released in 2017. Season two will be released on Alt Balaji and Zee 5 on February 20.
